Provincial Board to endorse P1B Minglanilla reclamation project to PRA, Neda

THE Cebu Provincial Reclamation Authority (CPRA) approved the 100-hectare reclamation project of Minglanilla last Wednesday.Gov. Hilario Davide III, who heads CPRA, said the Provincial Board will endorse the P1-billion project to the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) and the National Economic and Development Authority for approval.

The areas to be reclaimed in Barangays Calajoan and Tulay will be converted into an industrial park. More than half, or 51.84 hectares, will be an industrial zone that will house 54 light industrial manufacturing and assembly plants of both local and foreign locators. The rest will be commercial, institutional and utilities and residential/mix use zones, according to Provincial Information Officer Ethel Natera.

Road networks will have sidewalks and bike lanes, she added.
The project is the second public-private partnership reclamation project approved by the CPRA this year, following the reclamation project in Cordova.

The CPRA approved the 1,500-hectare Cordova reclamation project last June.
Jose Soberano III, chairman and president of Ming-Mori Development Corp. (MMDC), said the Minglanilla project has the same format as the Cordova-SM Prime Holdings Inc. joint-venture agreement.
The MMDC entered into a partnership with Minglanilla for the reclamation project.

According to their agreement, 49 percent of saleable land will be owned by MMDC, which serves as the private developer. The rest will be shared by the PRA, Minglanilla and the Capitol.
The industrial park is expected to provide about 100,000 jobs.Jose Franco Soberano, director of Cebu Land Masters, said the reclamation will spur development in the south.MMDC is the subsidiary of Cebu Land Masters.The project will be funded by the MMDC at no cost to the municipality, he said.
Earlier, Minglanilla Ma-yor Elanito Peña said an international port will be built beside the reclaimed area to connect Minglanilla’s economic zone to Naga City.
